Rick Grimes’ departure from The Walking Dead is going to have ‘incredible emotional impact’.
Rick will be leaving the show part way over period nine, and his exit will create shockwaves throughout the community of survivors.
New showrunner Angela Kang has stated that fans should expect a few ‘amazing’ performances from the presented in an extremely emotional episode.
She signified to IGN: ‘This is new territory for us, obviously there have been characters that we’ve stated goodbye to over the years, but he’s the individual who brought us into the show.
‘But we have such a strong ensemble and there’s such beautiful scenes between a lot of these core characters that we’ve been tracking for multiple years.
‘Rick has such interesting and deep relationships with these characters and you honestly consider the way that he has touched these dissimilar people’s lives.’
She praised Andrew for his ‘incredible’ work in his concluding episode and added: ‘We honestly hope that we don’t let people down.’
Angela indicated that we’re going to be seeing dissimilar ’emotional shades’ from Negan, who is currently secured up by Rick, and that there will be ‘really significant interactions’ between him and other characters in the upcoming season.
A new lengthy plot synopsis has further been revealed for the season, that reads: ‘Last period brought the culmination of “All Out War,” that opposed Rick Grimes and his group of survivors from the Saviors and their cunning leader, Negan. With Negan’s life in his hands, Rick had a character-defining choice in front of him.
‘By making the unilateral judgment to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in demand to build for the future, but created conflict within his group. Now, we see our survivors a year and a half after the completion of the war, rebuilding civilisation under Rick’s steadfast leadership.
‘It is a time of relative peace among the communities as they work together, looking to the past to forge the future, but the world they understood is rapidly changing as man-made structures continue to degrade and nature takes over changing the landscape and creating new challenges for our survivors.
‘As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, that threatens the true idea of civilisation that our survivors have worked so difficult to build.’
The Walking Dead period nine kicks off on 7 October on AMC, and airs on Fox in the UK.
